A position has become available for a Safety and Security Manager wo will contribute to MSA’s success by managing safety and security of students, staff, facilities, property, and company assets through efficient risk management and effective communication. Takes a proactive role in leading implementation and evaluation of safety and security related matters and recommends revisions as appropriate. Develops programs and manages the Safety Security team and activities within the campus.
Duties and Responsibilities :Policy, Planning and Execution:
Develop strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results;
Implement safety security policies, recommend revisions to security policies, procedures and guidelines as appropriate.
Ensure campus policies and procedures are followed :
Have a detailed knowledge of all campus policies and procedures in relation to campus operations;
Carry out compliance audits on campus in line with the current strategy. Highlighting areas of potential risk and shortcomings on campus policies and procedures. Making recommendations at all levels to improve compliance;
Ensure campus policy and best practices are applied consistently and robustly across the business;
Assess and evaluate areas of risk caused to the campus by procedural malfunctions resulting in students, employees and profit risk.
Support achievement of campus business targets through effective management of risk:
Conduct appropriate training in risk management to all students and staff;
Conduct surveys in physical security requirements identifying and prioritizing the type and levels of equipment/personnel required where appropriate;
Keep abreast of modern and new technology in respect of prevention and detection techniques to enable proactive risk management and loss prevention approach to be taken;
Review on a consistent basis the use of equipment and procedures designed to reduce or prevent risks, overseeing and monitoring any implementation, keeping within the budget restraints of the department ;
Manage the collection, analysis, and distribution of local security data and information.
Implement programs and policies in areas of:
Travel management;
Disaster recovery;
Continuation of operations;
Physical protection;
Crisis management;
Emergency planning;
Performance measures;
Program reviews;
Others as appropriate.
Business Requirement, Incident Response, and Emergency Preparedness Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
Prevent, detect, and investigate campus losses/risk;
Provide support, advice and guidance to students and staff and to ensure a proactive focus on risk management is maintained throughout the campus;
Manage investigations of safety and security policy and procedure violations, integrity issues, criminal activity, campus compliance matters and report findings to appropriate operations, student and employee relations and legal partners. Identify and report areas of potential risk and gaps between actual performance and campus policy and procedures;
Attend and provide evidence in courts, industrial tribunals and disciplinary hearings as required.
Carry out investigations into losses by known criminal activity;
Prevent, mitigate, and respond to security issues, natural disasters, and geopolitical threats and events.
Establish and implement crisis management and emergency response plans;
Lead implementation of disaster recovery and continuity of operational plans;
Address hazards and ensure a safe working environment for students and staff.
Compliance and Enforcement:
Serve as the compliance officer with respect to standard security policies and regulations to meet international and industry practices (GIIP);
Manage relationships and collaboration with law enforcement and government agencies in support of safety, security and protection of assets;
Establish rapport and supports the collaboration with law enforcement, civil authorities, legal entities, government agencies and peer organization security departments.
Maintain effective communication with senior management, all students and staff:
Provide timely, concise accurate reporting on all aspects of the role at all levels;
Provide 24hr, 365-day emergency advice/support via a mobile phone or appropriate channels;
Manage security staff and/or contract security services.
Team Education, Training, and Management:
Identify needs and assist in the development of appropriate safety security related training and materials for office staff;
Develop skills of staff and prepare personnel for emergency response and other responsibilities;
Evaluate and manage job performance through observation and/or review of work product;
Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business, and customer results.

Excellent technical and communications skills are a must, as well as proven security leadership experience.
Key selection criteria:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in related discipline desired, but not required;
5-10 years of experience in security-related areas such as law enforcement, public safety, corporate security etc. including 3+ years in a leadership capacity;
Working knowledge of and experience in the policy and regulatory environment of safety security, especially in higher education is desired;
Should have experience with crisis management, business continuity planning, auditing, and risk management.
Licensure and /or Certification
PSP (Physical Security Professional), CPP (Certified Protection Professional), or other related certification desired.
