Introduction

Gold Fields is offering an the following learnerships opportunities at South Deep Gold Mine:

Electrician, Fitter, Instrument mechanician, Platter/Welder, Diesel mechanic and Rigger/Ropes man learnerships (Ref: SDS/LEVEL3-4/APRIL16)
Electro/ Mechanical Learnerships (Ref: SDS/LEVEL2/APRIL16)
Winding Engine Driver Learnerships (Ref: SDS/WED/APRIL16)
Onsetter Learnerships (Ref: SDS/LONSETTER/APRIL16)
Gold Fields Limited is a South African gold mining firm, one of the world’s largest. Located in the north-east of the country in Gauteng, South Deep gold mine is the second biggest gold mine in the world. It is the also the seventh deepest mine in the world with a depth of 2,995m below surface.




Requirements

• ELECTRICIAN LEARNERSHIP applicant must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 Industrial electronic, N2 electrical trade theory

• FITTER LEARNERSHIP applicant must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 fitting machining trade theory, N2 engineering drawing

• INSTRUMENT MECHANICIAN LEARNERSHIP applicants must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 Instrumentation trade theory, N2 Industrial electronics

• PLATTER / WELDER LEARNERSHIP applicants must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 platters trade theory, N2 platters structural and steel drawing.

• DIESEL MECHANIC LEARNERSHIP applicants must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 diesel/motor trade theory, N2 engineering drawing

• RIGGER LEARNERSHIP applicants must:

Have N2 mathematics, N2 engineering science, N2 rigging trade theory, N2 engineering drawing

• ELECTRO/MECHANICAL LEARNERSHIP applicants must:




Have N1 qualification (4 subjects) with Mathematics and Science including a Trade Theory subject: (Electrical or Fitting including Machining N1 engineering drawing for the mechanical trade or N1 industrial electronics for electrical instrumentation trades Or ABET level 4/Grade 10 with science and mathematics.
WINDING ENGINE DRIVER LEARNERSHIP applicants must:
Have a Grade 12 and a Valid Medical Certificate (Or be able to obtain one)

• ONSETTER LEARNERSHIP applicants must:

Have a Grade 12 with Math’s and Science and a Valid Medical Certificate (Or be able to obtain one)
Key responsibilities include
Undergoing technical training courses as prescribed by MQA and short courses as required by the mine during the Learnership.
Abide to the working long hours at the mine, training centre or technical college.
Abide by all health and safety rules and regulations applicable on the mine.
Promoting team work and being an effective team member.
Wear all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre.
Abide by the values on the mine i.e. safety, responsibility, honesty, respect, innovation and delivery



All applicants must

• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo psychometric evaluation as part of the selection process. Successful applicants will be required to sign a training contract for the duration of the training programme. The training contract is not a contract of employment. Preference will be given to learners residing in the South Deep Host Communities and Labour Sending Areas as well as female applicants.
