As a Service Technician – Commissioning, you will be part of the Electrification Products (EP) Division and Medium Voltage (MV) Business Unit (BU) based in Modderfontein. Tasks:
As a Service Technician in commissioning you will be responsible to execute service delivery according to agreed work flows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines. Deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customer needs. Take action to identify new Service Business Opportunities for ABB in co-operation with the customer and other ABB Team Members.
Your Tasks will include the following:
1. Service Delivery
• Perform all Service tasks, identify technical problems and make an analysis via remote or on-site activity in any Service Categories (installation and commissioning, maintenance, repairs, engineering and consulting, advanced services, extensions, upgrades and retrofits, end of life services, replacements, etc.).
• Ensure the serviceability of the test equipment required for site cold commissioning is functional and serviceable at all times.
• As a member of the ABB EPMV Service team the main purpose of your role is to deliver a high quality, consistent and competent service in accordance with project / company requirements, standards and procedures to support overall delivery of company goals and schedule.
• Safely perform testing and commissioning functions on the following within the given time frame:
o Medium voltage distribution systems
o Medium voltage switchgear
o Protection relays
o Protection relay coordination, settings, SLDs, cable schedule, Key Schematic Diagrams, etc.
o Medium voltage retrofit installations
o Battery chargers
2. Customer Approach
• Contribute to customer satisfaction by executing Service work according to customer orders and expectations.
• Create and maintain a good relationship with customers and understand their needs.
• Identify new sales opportunities and communicate them internally.
• Ensure clients’ needs are met within the required timeframes and expectations.
• Prepare test plans.
• Assist vendor representatives and site operations in commissioning and startup (energization) activities for medium voltage electrical systems.
3. Materials and Supply
• Coordinate, prepare and ensure that all materials, parts and equipment are available and according to the appropriate quality for service activities.
• Follow and maintain Company standards of Quality in accordance with Company Quality System requirements.
4.Documentation and Reports
• Prepare all documents and reports to be signed by the customer representative.
• Report work done in a timely manner and follow up when needed.
• Provide detailed feedback on return to ABB to the direct Service Supervisor or Project Manager.
• Ensure that all drawing mark-ups have been redlined for any changes as built completed projects.
• Complete field level risk assessments.
• Completion of approved commissioning check sheets.
• Preparation of testing and pre-commissioning reports.
5.Troubleshooting
• Proactively identify potential equipment failures and request proactive corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot equipment failure and make recommendations to avoid repeating the problem in the future.
• Pro-actively repair and consult remedial actions which may be required at site to the customer’s satisfaction.
6.Continuous Improvement
• Proactively identify suggestions for product and quality improvement and communicate them further in the ABB organization.
• Provide recommendations to management to improve operations and customer service.
• Update and markup drawings during commissioning.
7. Health and Safety
• Apply safety rules and safe practices as well as environmental responsibilities.
• Report unsafe practices and incidents immediately.
• Comply with the standard medical requirements of ABB and all of its Clients.
• Ensure all work scope is completed in a safe manner with no detrimental impact to personnel, quality or environment.
• Ensure compliance with the site cardinal safety rules and with all safety aspects in the execution of work.
Requirements:
Ideally you will be in possession of a Diploma, N6 or BTech degree in Electrical Engineering coupled with a minimum of 3 years commissioning experience in the oil, gas and mining industry. Completion of your apprenticeship complemented with your knowledge and experience in interpreting circuit diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and SABS installation standards will make you the ideal candidate. Your skills in using a variety of electrical test equipment, willingness to travel and perform work underground together with good communication skills and have a valid driver’s license will be an added advantage
