Clinical Product Specialist – Diabetes Care – BD

Reporting to the Business Manager – Diabetes Care Africa the Clinical Product Specialist will be responsible for the overall clinical support of Diabetes Care portfolio for Africa with South Africa as primary focus.

KEY DELIVERABLES RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify needs in the Diabetes fraternity / environment and define the clinical scope and strategy for Diabetes business in South Africa

• Act as a clinical support to all business initiatives preparation of clinical materials, collaterals, and training materials.

• Define, develop, and implement KOL engagement plans supporting the objectives of best practice, injection technique, and diabetes management from global initiatives.

• Develop and implement overall training needs of diabetes business i.e. customer/ product / clinical training.

• Lead alliances / partnerships with Diabetes Management organizations i.e. CDE, Lilly, Sanofi, Bayer, Abbott, JJ, Roche.

• Liaise and work with the Sales Teams and EMEA Clinical teams to provide customers with clinical and product education / training to support BD Medical products in the region.

• Build business relationships within hospital accounts to maximize sales of a specified range of products by creating and developing “Best Clinical Practice” protocols/policies.

• Represent BD Medical in a professional manner on all occasions whilst providing the customer (as appropriate) an awareness of the full range of BD Medical Solutions. Position BD Medical products by providing clinically relevant solutions.

• Play a direct role in clinical/product evaluations specifically in targeted key accounts in support of business objectives. Support/lead locally relevant clinical studies/trials. Manage in-service process as part of conversion process.

• To prepare and deliver clinically relevant presentations that focus on product positioning at relevant clinical workshops, seminars and informal meetings.

• Adapt BD Medical training and educational programs in accordance with local legislation where required.

• Participate in identified EMA CRC team projects; sharing experience within the team, support key businesses objectives.

• Provide full clinical support to sales team with focus on maintaining sound clinical knowledge.

• Work closely with professional organizations / KOLs such as IDF, CDE – Nursing education, country diabetes organizations, insulin manufacturer BGM alliance, etc.

• Liaise with external organizations to steer policy and treatment guidelines to drive conversion.

• Plan a complete engagement plan for key stakeholders (HCP, nurses, pharmacists) in the covering clinical activities, educational materials

• Drive FIT/FITTER advisory board and PR activities to enhance BD equity in diabetes fraternity

• Participate and prioritize in all scientific meetings and congresses representing BD Diabetes care in South Africa

• Initiate clinical studies and surveys in coordination with BD worldwide research/ clinical organization.

• Lead initiation of clinical trials to prepare the market for new launches.

• Assist Sales organization with clinical data / market needs for effective launch of new products.

• Assess clinical selling skills of team and conduct regular updates and training to match with Regional/Global PCSA aspirations

• Provide support to all distributors, where applicable, for clinical initiatives and programs.

External relationship

• Stakeholder Management : Maintain relationships with – KOLs, Regional Endocrinologists, MOH in SA; Key Distributor and third party marketing organization

• Medical fraternity – Diabetes educators, endocrinologist, GP’s and KOLs

• Pharmaceutical partners i.e. Eli Lilly, Sanofi Aventis, Roche, JJ, Bayer, and Abbott

• Non-Governmental Diabetes association and societies i.e. SEMSDA, CDE, IDF, ADA, etc.

• Government: hospital and procurement management

• Funders

Internal interface Operational effectiveness

• Country sales teams

• Regional Global Marketing Clinical team

• DC Support staff in South Africa

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:

• Bachelor in Science or Nursing (or equivalent Health Science)

• A master’s degree will be an added advantage.

• At least 5 years professional experience in the healthcare sector with proven track record in the Pharma or Medical Devices industry

• Experience in the diabetes market is preferred.

• Experience working with the Public or Private sector in South Africa

• Experience of KOL management and dealing with Ministry of Health in tender environment

• Ability to build strong customer relationships and existing customer knowledge is an added advantage

• Willingness and prepared for frequent travel within the country, region and to European BD locations.

Other Requirements:

• Fluency in English (spoken and written).

• Advanced computer skills

• Ability to organize and manage programs, training, workshops.
