Purpose of the position
The Investment Officer is responsible to move investment opportunities / projects (provided by the Coverage Team) from early review to disbursement.
Conduct Transaction Assessment and meets the Entitys’ mandate
Evaluate the feasibility of investment opportunities / project transactions with a view ensuring that they are commercially sound prospects for debt financing and is aligned to the Entitys’ strategy and mandate.
Make transactions bankable by identifying and mitigating key risk issues by working closely with Financing Operations Team (Sector Specialists, Country Risk Specialists, Financial Analysts, etc.)
Provide value to transactions for the benefit of and/or the client through knowledge of the subject, innovation and lateral thinking.
Prepare early review proposals and documentation in the agreed format.
Responsibilities Duties
Responsibility 1: Execute Transactions Drive the Credit Approval Process to ensure best class output in liaison with the Manager
Transactions/Other senior staff structure and negotiate the detailed terms of the deal / transaction with Treasury, Legal, and Loan Administration Teams to drive the approval of transactions.
Close deal / transactions by obtaining the relevant internal approvals for the transactions and leading or actively participating in the successful conclusion of negotiations.
Actively manage the transaction unit to drive the credit approval process in its entirety from early review to the relevant approval committees.
Ensure proposals submitted to these committees are well structured and documented for effective decision making.
Implement transactions by facilitating the preparation or managing the preparation of complex multiple jurisdiction documents and compliance with all required procedures, laws and regulations.
Responsibility 2: Resolve any potential constraints in the lending value chain, in liaison with the manager
Manage all risk aspects of the continent wide financing delivery function, in terms of ensuring appropriate structuring of investment risks and on-going mitigations of operations-related risks.
Ensure sound financial capital management through assuming responsibility for stewardship over the capital under management, and as well as efficient utilisation of financial resources.
Ensure the capturing of learning opportunities post transaction conclusion for continuous improvement and ensuring successful delivery of deals.
Monitor Client Performance
Record and continuously monitor country/industry/client performance i.e. revenues
Responsibility 3: Key Measures
Revenue performance in terms of Interest Income and Fees generated.
Delivery on the agreed International Operations Mandate; these include:
Growth rate in assets of International loan book;
Annual disbursements, commitments and approvals;
Quality of loan book;
% of loan book in priority geographies and sectors;
Number of new clients;
Number of potential deals worked on
Management of Client Relationships and key Stakeholders.

Academic Trades Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
Matric Certificate
A Bachelor’s degree i.e. Finance, Business, Accounting, Engineering, Relevant Science or Economics;
Desirable Qualifications
Postgraduate Management development programme
Work Experience Skills
Essential Experience:
A minimum of 5 years’ experience at an Investment Officer Level.
Experience in assessing investment transaction opportunities and projects from early review to bankable debt financing deals
Experience in structuring proposals to the approval committees for decision making purposes.
Experience in presenting proposals to Senior Management to ensure transactions and projects are approved.
Experience in concluding transactions of less than $100 million dollars.
Experience in doing business in across Africa within an international organization.
Reputed experience in Development Finance.
Experience in doing business on an international level.
Experience in operating effectively across organizational boundaries and work as a team to meet assigned strategies and goals;

Personal Attributes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Fluency in French, Portuguese, Swahili and other languages widely used in Africa is an advantage.
Able to speak persuasively and present idea clearly and concisely.

Outstanding interpersonal, diplomatic and partnership skills required for building and maintaining collaborative relationships with senior government officials, partners and stakeholders with the aim of strengthening client-country development processes;

Technical Skills and Competencies
Fee Income product knowledge and expertise in Trade Finance, guarantee issuance, arranging and distribution.
Must have the ability to negotiate complex financial transactions, mainly of a non or limited recourse financing nature.
Experience in developing high quality presentations (MS PowerPoint) and financial models (MS Excel)Understanding of international economic financial relations.
Ability to comprehensively analyse financial statements;
Ability to conduct feasibility of investment opportunities / project transactions.
Ability to by identifying and mitigating key risk issues of transactions and projects.
Ability to provide value to transactions for the benefit of and/or the client through knowledge of the subject, innovation and lateral thinking.
Skill in preparing early review proposals and documentation.

Sound business judgment to identify potential business partners;
Strong business development and client relationship skills, ability to focus effectively on clients’ needs;
Skill in dealing in multi-cultural environments and build effective working relations;
