Job Purpose:
To develop and implement strategies, initiatives and engagement campaign plans to promote a balanced regulatory framework for tobacco products in SAM markets, and to communicate with stakeholders how BAT operates responsibly across its operations. The role holder will also build and maintain productive working relationships with 3rd parties, value chain partners and ensure all reputational and media activities across SAM markets are coordinated and aligned with SAA communications strategy.
Key deliverables:
• Oversee and coordinate the development and execution of engagement campaign strategies and plans, in conjunction with the Head of External Affairs, Area regulation team, LT and SAM end market LEX managers
• Proactively manage and coordinate government, 3rd party stakeholder and media engagement activities, in accordance with Global and Regional guidelines
• Ensure key decision makers within the organisation fully understand the operating environment in respect of regulatory activities and political developments to enable them to set realistic business targets
• Keep business, end markets management leadership teams and SAALT informed on relevant international and national regulatory developments, including trade bloc developments
• Provide strategic and tactical advice to the Function, LT and SAM end market LEX Managers in responding to and managing regulatory and reputational developments
• Ensure effective implementation of regulatory and reputational strategies and plans across the Area and monitor, track and report on their implementation
• Work with Marketing / TMD to counsel on customer and consumer information initiatives and campaigns
• Actively leverage new ways of working and innovative responses to regulatory threats, reputational/media issues and ensure strategic use of regulation to support the business
• Actively participate and contribute to the work plan of industry bodies to promote the positioning of BAT and the industry within a balanced regulatory environment
• Ensure effective reputational and communications plans are in place for crisis situations
Essential requirements
South African citizenship or permanent residency
5-10 years work experience

• Excellent understandings of the local tobacco control environment, regulatory and political processes in SAM markets, the Area/Regional media landscape and other focus areas
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to consistently engage and influence 3rd party stakeholder and proactively manage relationships
• Execute and coordinate robust end markets / Area engagement campaigns
•• Ability to develop, coordinate and implement multi-market, multi-stakeholder engagement and media campaign plans
• Ability to express and communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise way
• Contribute to change management initiatives
• Prioritisation, coordination and delivery of multiple tasks to tight deadlines
• Act on own initiative – be proactive
• Actively manages and develops direct reports and team members, including remote teams
