TECHNICAL TRANSLATOR/WRITER – BPC Banking Technologies

Rwanda or South Africa

BPC is looking for an experienced technical translator/writer who can translate documentation from English into French, as well as create documentation in French and English. The position is for a translator/writer based in either the Cape Town or Johannesburg offices but the successful applicant will work with colleagues in Moscow and elsewhere. Occasional travel may be required, including for onboarding.

The successful candidate will be appointed on a permanent full time position.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. The degree may be in the humanities (French language majors would be an advantage) or the sciences (computer science or information technology majors would be advantages).

· At least five years’ experience working in technical translation or technical writing (or a closely allied field such as instructional materials development) in a software development environment.

· Excellent written communication skills in English and French. Applicants should be mother-tongue speakers of French, or be in possession of certification demonstrating proficiency (for example, DALF [ Diplфme Approfondi de Langue Franзaise ] C1).

The following are advantageous:

· Experience developing user assistance within a user-focused, task-oriented paradigm (employing user scenarios, role-based analysis, task analysis, etc.).

· Experience working in a topic-based framework such as DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture).

· Experience using help authoring tools such as Help Manual, Oxygen XML Author, or MadCap Flare.

· Experience in working in a multinational company with remote colleagues and subject matter experts.

· Experience developing documentation for the EFT (electronic funds transfer) or banking domains.

· Membership of a professional technical writing organization.

Applicants should have the following qualities:

· Be detail oriented.

· Be able to work alone in a self-managed fashion, or collaborate closely with team members on topic-based user assistance.

· Be able to communicate effectively with remote subject matter experts such as business analysts, architects, developers, and project managers.

· Be able to estimate effort and be disciplined in delivering materials to deadlines.

· Be able to accurately track effort expended on projects.

Applicants will be expected to provide examples of technical documentation/translation for which they have been primarily responsible.
