Copywriter International – Sage – Johannesburg, Gauteng

Job Summary:

The brand team drives engagement, leads and builds brand awareness to improve conversion. Lead generation support is #1 priority. We’ll be creating assets to support lead gen for all commercial events, direct marketing programs, email marketing, corporate communications, social marketing, and brand marketing, among other tactics.

Bring the Sage brand to life with words and stories across many types of deliverables in the standard marketing mix. Develop big creative ideas including copy, headlines, calls-to-action and campaign ideas for direct mail, digital promotions, video scripts, presentation scripts, presentations, collateral, websites, and print advertisements. This person partners closely with designers (internally and externally employed) to develop the most effective ways to position products, services, solutions, and offers from both a copy standpoint and visually for the marketing tactic.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:

Creative Voice and Vision

  • Champion the Sage brand with an eye for both present and future business objectives, customer pain points, and strategic direction
  • Collaborate with the creative team to brainstorm concepts that consistently prove innovative thinking
  • Integrate corporate brand messaging and product positioning into copy

Conceptual Thinking

  • Translate strategies outlined in creative briefs and discovery meetings into provocative, engaging concepts and copy
  • Write clean copy that uses active sentences, attention-grabbing headlines, and has an intuitive flow of information
  • Execute the Sage brand message with meaning, precision, and consistency

Relationship Building

  • Build trust and fellowship with internal clients by understanding their objectives, project positioning, and market position
  • Partner with an art director to generate jointly developed ideas
  • Seek honest, constructive feedback from project team members and implement team and client feedback into projects. Provide honest and constructive feedback to other project team members on their elements of each piece
  • Engage team members in project discussions and brainstorming
  • Exercise good judgment and decision-making skills, and understand when to escalate issues

Quality Control

  • Proofread all copy
  • Be accountable for meeting deadlines, and coordinate tasks, milestones, and deadlines with the traffic management team
  • Recommend additional content, edits to content, and removal of content based on project objectives
  • Confirm that all copy has been approved through the proper review channel before being published

Qualifications:
Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of proven success in creative copywriting positions
  • Experience writing for the software and/or technology industry preferred
  • Expert with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with an art director partner
  • Experience working in an advertising agency required, corporate side experience a plus
  • BS/BA in Creative Writing, Journalism, or related education and/or certifications or equal/relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-demand environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to take feedback and incorporate it quickly
  • Collaborative in a team environment
