This position is available at the Defence Decision Support Institute (DDSI) at Armscor, a state own organisation. DDSI provide research and analysis to senior South African Defence decision makers at the strategic and operational level. DDSI support the development of alternative options for the Defence Force to fulfil its current and future obligations according to the government mandate in foreseen scenarios. PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide quantitate research and analysis in the development of future scenarios for Defence Force utilization.
To assist and support the senior defence force clients in defining and refining complex research requirements that requires participation in rigorous, process driven and independent research.
To analyses quantitatively different approaches of utilizing forces and different force compositions, to support integrated decisions on systems elements such as, equipment requirements, personnel, training and technology developments.
To be part of integrated research and analysis teams, comprising of various defence and other related experts, requiring the application of quantitative decision logic, supported by appropriate tools and methodologies.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Define and conduct single complex research requirement development, definition, results and inputs to Department of Defence (DOD) clients.
Interpret research results and provide guidance to DOD decision makers.
Identify and give input to the development of future defence research requirements in client environment.
Actively interact with client programme management environments in order to ensure effective stakeholder engagement.
To conduct peer reviews and provide specialist inputs to the research focus and results.
To lead a Defence Force integrated, multidisciplinary research team on the future positioning of the Defence Force.
Interpret and present complex research findings to the client.
Coach and guide Defence Analysts with application in DOD.
To network with related industry and local and international peers to stay abreast with developments and trends in area of expertise and share with team members.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:Qualification:
A relevant Post graduate qualification (e.g. B Mil Hons or BA Hons (Political Sciences).
Operational Research Society of South Africa (Advantage) or any other relevant body.
African Peace and Security Africa Association (APSA) or any related body.
Experience:
9 – 12 years relevant experience of which at least 2 years is on decision support research projects.
