Head Of Accounts Payable – Distell Group Limited

Applications are invited for the above mentioned position based at Libertas Parva, Stellenbosch. This position will report to the Group Treasurer.

Purpose of this position:

To manage and direct the daily operations of the accounts payable department to proactively and reactively ensure optimal productivity and accuracy while cultivating positive team morale and maintaining strong client and supplier relationships and to drive various AP projects, including process and systems-based improvements, and introduce ways to make the Accounts Payable process more efficient and transparent.

Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the day to day full-cycle Accounts Payable function, including all aspects of work flow associated with the timely and accurate processing of payables in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Establish performance metrics, monitors individual team performance providing timely feedback and taking corrective action as necessary to maintain optimal performance standards.
  • Proactively oversees the daily processes of the accounts payable team ensuring accurate research, review and resolution of supplier disputed and/or open accounts payable issues to avoid recurring issues.
  • Provides input and escalates issues when appropriate to support opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and/or procedures.
  • Plans and implements procedures while establishing and maintaining controls to maximize operating efficiency.
  • Ensures accurate testing and implementation of system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Continually stays connected with members of Supply Chain to identify opportunities and highlight potential pitfalls impacting supplier relations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must preferably have the following experience:

  • Shared Services experience in a managerial role is essential.
  • Experience with automated invoicing software is a strong plus.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience with multi-entity and global corporate structures.
  • Project team level participation in new systems implementations a strong plus.
  • Experience in establishing or enhancing business policies and process re-engineering.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of accounts payable including business processes and best practices.

The successful candidate must preferably have the following skills/abilities:

  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage in a high volume, fast paced changing environment.
  • Ability to develop strong, cohesive teams with a proven ability to develop team members to maximize individual and team potentials.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of accounts payable including business processes and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to regularly use good business judgment while applying company policy.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent ability to resolve supplier and internal customer concerns quickly and creatively to achieve satisfaction.
  • Keen attention to detail and reliability.
  • Strong written and oral communications.

The successful candidate must preferably have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in accounting or business related field and a minimum of 5 years accounts payable related experience, or
  • A minimum requirement of 7 years of accounts payable related experience including 3+ years in an accounts payable managerial role.
