A permanent position exists within the Developmental Impact Support Department for a Senior Socio-Economic Development Specialist at our Head Office in Sandton, reporting to Head of Developmental Impact Support.
Purpose of the job:
• Facilitate IDC’s impact on real socio-economic transformation and BBBEE through Workers Trusts, Community Foundations/Trusts and BBBEE consortia;
Key responsibilities include:
• Assist IDC investee companies to identify communities and to conduct community profiling and needs assessments;
• Frame and contribute to key policy discussions in relation to the IDC’s socio-economic impact.
• Identify and facilitate engagements and interventions for youth economic participation.
• Facilitate government (national, provincial and local) support where appropriate to enhance socio-economic impact.
• Ensure that local communities derive maximum benefit from the investments through access to labour, sub-contracting opportunities, socio-economic investment and income derived from projects;
• Facilitate the proper establishment of Community, Workers Trusts and other broad-based entities;
• Co-ordinate training for Trustees and Trust beneficiaries;
• Hands on involvement via consultation and the coordination (pre-investment, during due diligence, and post-investment) of the socio-economic and broad-based initiatives on an investment-by-investment basis;
• Monitor the progress and report on all and any B-BBEE intervention (IDC investments) from a socio-economic perspective in terms of reach and impact;
• Consultant management;
• Facilitate strategic partnerships and alliances with other support institutions in the broader eco-system;
• Provide support and expert advice to IDC SBUs and investee companies, including :
o Liaison between investee companies, construction teams, design teams, stakeholders and the communities to ensure information is disseminated and communicated efficiently and effectively across the project teams;
o Keep the community and other stakeholder groups actively informed of the projects processes and progress;
o Provide a link between local resources and the investee companies;
o Keep the IDC and investee companies aware of community needs and possible changes in dynamics;
o Lead the process of developing internal community awareness so that it is at the forefront of the planning process; and,
o Report regularly to IDC, investee companies and community structures with respect to local involvement in the projects, specifically targeting training and skills development needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate Post-Graduate Degree in Development Economics or similar.
Additional legal and political/socio-economics qualification and capabilities would be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• At least five years relevant experience in community development or socio-economic development.
• Significant experience and knowledge of policy, legislation and practices in respect of broad-based entities, transformation and empowerment.
• Knowledge and experience of prevailing policies and legislation impacting on broad-based entities
