The department of basic education said Minister Angie Motshekga would announce the results on January 5, and pupils can get their results from their school or examination centre on the morning of January 6.

Umalusi said despite the efforts of the education authorities to prevent a repeat of mass copying this year, 26 cases of group copying had been reported.

KwaZulu-Natal, which was among provinces linked to the mass copying last year in 19 centres, have again been linked in 12 of its examination centres.

In Gauteng, six centres have been implicated, in Limpopo one and in Mpumalanga seven. Umalusi chairperson John Volmink said yesterday the body was disappointed that the department had not completely eliminated the phenomenon of group copying.

“This year, a number of new schools have been implicated.” Volmink warned officials that drastic measures would be taken against anyone who was implicated.

In the second week of exams, there were also incidents of paper leakages in Limpopo, which spilled into Gauteng and Mpumalanga in life sciences papers 1 and 2. Volmink said all pupils in Vhembe District in Limpopo were required to rewrite life sciences papers 1 and 2.
