Middle Weight Strategist (Boipelo360) – Boipelo 360

Overview

Client is looking for a smart, passionate and insightful middle-weight strategist to join its Strategy team.

Candidates must have a relevant tertiary qualification and at least 5 years work experience doing, inter alia, but not exclusively, research and insight gathering, communication and brand strategy development. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be a strong writer, as well as above average presentation and client facing skills.

This position would ideally suite a person on their 3rd job not taking into account their internship, who already have the fundamentals of marketing and communications strategy in place, who want to take their career to the next level.

Accounts you would work on are FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Transport amongst others

In addition, the successful candidate would also work with other businesses in the group including PR, Activations, Digital and Media on projects or campaigns.

Skills, experience and more

The middle-weight strategist will be required to deliver a number of outputs (see below) and will need experience in each of these areas:

  • Brand strategies (from scratch as well as review and revise existing documents):

o A working knowledge of the different models and tools, including the Brand Blue Print, Onion, Key, Footprint, DNA.

o 2-3 years experience

  • Briefs:

o Strong skills in terms of writing, interrogating, translating client brief into agency brief, briefing creative teams (including experiential briefings)

  • Competitor reviews:

o Able to source data and communication, analyse media spend data, identify themes and trends and draw conclusions

o Able to oversee a junior to do the above (right combination of guidance and trust)

  • Working with creative:

o Ability to add value to the Creative review process including provision of strategic feedback that is constructive and builds on the ideas on the table

  • Support for client service:

o Experience developing the Strategic element of the set up slides for presentations to clients

  • New business:

o Experience working on new business pitches including data gathering –

vox pops, questionnaire development and internal focus groups to be able to identify insights in the absence of proper information from client.

  • Research:

o Familiar with tools such as Link testing.

o Working knowledge of, and experience with qualitative and quantitative research (reading, reviewing, extracting insights).

o Experience of writing research briefs

o Experience developing questionnaires for informal research and working knowledge of tools such as Survey Monkey.

o Familiarity and experience using the data from media tools such as AMPS, Adex and other sources such as Nielsen.

  • Strong passion and knowledge of media (traditional and digital).

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • 5 years post qualification working experience
  • Previous experience managing a subordinate
  • Must be a strong writer – 200 work article on the industry required on application submission
  • MS Office, PowerPoint and Excel – Intermediate to advance skill level
