Introduction
In an effort to reduce unemployment, the Desmond Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation has initiated a programme designed to strengthen young people’s opportunities for employment. Desmond Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, the Youth@Work programme provides young people with a chance to define, plan and begin to implement their career path.
Youth@Work empowers young people to take control of their lives. The programme attracts young people from underserved communities across Cape Town. All have completed high school but have little or no hope of accessing further education or of finding employment. The programme prioritises young women, as they are the most disadvantaged when it comes to finding employment.
The programme teaches young people to believe in themselves. It equips them with knowledge and skills necessary to step up and step out. The Curriculum comprises of both hard soft skills courses. The group is diverse in gender, race, socio-economic status and education, we developed a curriculum that challenged each of the participants individually.
The curriculum addresses the following core ares:
• Health Wellness
• Leadership Development
• Gender Awareness
• Civi Education
• Community Development
• Career Managemnt
• Business Communication
• Digital Literacy
Requirements
• Must have completed Matric/Grade 12
• Must be unemployed
• Be between the ages of 18-20
• Must be a hard working individual
