The Medupi Power Station is a new dry-cooled coal-fired power station being built by Eskom near Lephalale in Limpopo province, South Africa. When completed, the power station is to have six boilers each powering an 800 MW turbine, producing 4800 MW of power. It is expected to become the largest dry-cooled coal fired power station in the world.
Parsons Brinckerhoff is providing engineering and project management support to Eskom, South Africa’s power utility, for the development of the Medupi Power Station. The new plant, located 217 miles (350 kilometres) north of Johannesburg, will provide much- needed power to a growing population in a region where there hasn’t been a major new power plant in almost 20 years. It is being procured under 38 design-build contract packages.

Responsibilities
- Assess and advise on claims for the recovery of additional costs
- Assess claims for additional cost and time impact and draft responses to the contractors
- Review and manage claims related to the site construction contracts
- Provide specialist advice and support in the management of claims
- Mentor and coach new personnel
- Comply to all Eskom and site related governance and safety, health, environment, risk and quality (SHERQ) requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering or Law
- Project Management qualification would be an advantage
- Contracts management in the built-environment experience

- Professional Registration with the South African Council for Quantity Surveying Professions as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (Pr.QS) or Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Law Society of South Africa as a Professional Attorney
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to understand needs and provide solutions to problems
- A person whose attitudes, conduct and demeanour reflects the company’s core values and who is able to effectively represent and promote the reputation of the company
