Position Purpose :
To undertake fault finding, repair, maintenance, refurbishment, and alteration of existing electrical installations, plant and
equipment on a 24 hour basis including specialist maintenance to substation electricity network infrastructure and associated
electronic protection, monitoring and billing equipment, and to provide new electrical installations in the port as required; to
ensure an effective electrical distribution and maintenance service is supplied in the port and its clients.
Position outputs :
1. HIGH VOLTAGE over 1000 volts up to (12000volts)
a) Maintenance of substations, inspection and cleaning and repairs of circuit breakers, power transformers, cable spouts,
busbars, voltage transformers, current transformers, bus couplers and associated equipment
b) Assisting Test Lab with testing, calibrating of circuit breakers and various fault finding operations on cables and equipment
c) High voltage switching and making out Work and Test permits for work to be performed on High voltage equipment
2. MAINTENANCE AND FAULT FINDING ON SMALL PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

a) Check brush gear, bearings on angle grinders, drilling machines, extension leads and repair as required
b) Examine urns, kettles and all electrical appliances, plugs and leads and repair as required
3. INSTALLATION MAINTENANCE AND FAULT FINDING ON GENERAL LIGHTING AND PLUGS BUILDINGS,
WORKSHOPS AND OUTDOORS
a) Test plug circuits by using earth leakage tester and check for correct tripping amperage
b) Fault finding and repairs to street lights, and various types of lights and distribution boards in offices and buildings
c) Fault finding and repairs to flame proof fittings and equipment in hazardous areas
d) Installation and repairs to urns and hot water cylinders
e) Tubing and wiring and cabling of new projects (lights and plugs and power point circuits)
4. SEWERAGE PUMPS
Installation maintenance and repairs to sewerage pumps and control gear
5. MAINTAIN HIGH MAST LIGHTS
a) Winch down ring examine cables and all fittings for water leaks clean repair and replace where necessary
b) Switch on lights, identify faulty ones, and repair or replace where necessary
6. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS TO PUMPHOUSE EQUIPMENT, HAULAGE CHAMBER, SYNCHROLIFT, CROSS
TRAVERSE, AND CAPSTANS
a) Examine clean and test switchgear, contactors and starters
b) Open and examine, clean motors and test brush gear and spring tension
c) Open and service limit switches, check contacts lubricate and observe working operation
d) Tighten all connection terminals on panels, motors and switchgear
e) Remove constant current generator covers, clean and check brush gear and spring tension and test run
7. MAINTAIN HARBOUR CRANES
a) Examine crane plug for defects
b) Open centre pin cover and check brush gear contacts and tension
c) RR panel covers examine and clean contactors, thyromats and electrical connections on hoist luff, slew and travel power
and control circuits
d) Operate controllers test run and check crane switching operation sequence in hoist luff slew and travel operations
e) Open motors examine clean and check brush gear and tension
f) Examine limit switches, lubricate and check working operation
g) Examine thrusters and top up
8. FAULT FINDING AND REPAIRS ON MACHINES AND PLANT INCORPORATING SENSITIVE CONTROL SYSTEMS
CRANES***
a) Fault finding on Programmable logic controller and associated circuits for switching operations, and speed control
b) Fault finding on Thyromat, controlling motor stator, rotor speed, torque and also housing electronic cards for protection,
relays and crane control
c) Fault finding on D800 unit, to monitor crane motions and supply information of running hours of all motors
d) Fault finding on Crane overload system, controlling and monitoring maximum weight allowed to be lifted
CAPSTANS***
a) Fault finding on Dry dock docking Capstans control system housing programmable logic controller, proximity switches and
intricate motor control circuits
HAULAGE CHAMBER***
a) Fault finding on Programmable logic controller and associated circuits, weight overload cut-out system and intricate circuits
for Dry dock gate motor control
SYNCHROLIFT AND TRAVERSE***
a) Fault finding on programmable logic controller and associated circuits, controlling all functions of lifting operations for small

b) Fault finding on Touch screen controller, for operating lifting and monitoring of various lifting functions
c) Fault finding on cross traverse carrying vessels to various positions on repair slip
PUMPHOUSE, COMPRESSOR HOUSE AND FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT and STANDBY GENERATING PLANT***
a) Fault finding on starting running and interlocking circuits, for main motors compressors, exhausters, drainage and seepage

Qualifications Experience :
National Senior Certificate (Matric)
Apprenticeship min N2- N5 or higher will be an advantage

Successful completed Electrical trade tested
Basic Fire-fighting and first aid
Category A Brown certification (Medium Voltage) which incl. Esselen Park in house training of 6 weeks.
Code 08 driver’s licence

MS Office
3 to 5 years’ experience in the Electrical field
