Position Title : Vessel Traffic Control Assistant – NMB Ports

Position Purpose :
To source, extract and document accurate and current port control-related information and to furnish such information to the
port community and marine services role players as per needs.
Position outputs :
• Analyse and capture relevant data e.g. arrival/departure times, shifting movements, manual electronic systems (logbook,
VTS Log)
• Gathering and disseminating relevant information
• Answering and screening of telephone calls from port users both internal and external (e.g. ETA’s, ETD’s, Shifting’s, Berths,
etc.)
• Process attachment orders
• Administrative support for VTS Office
• Record keeping of all shipping related information

• Co-ordinate emergency Call-outs e.g. pollution, electrical, water, etc. (UNDER INSTRUCTION OF VTC/SVTC.)
• Provision of telephonic assistance in Marine Resource requirements
• Analyse and update shipping information/reports
• Analyse shipping documents for ISPS compliance
• Arranging supply of fresh water to vessels after normal working hours

Qualifications Experience :
• High School (Grade 12)- with Maths Science
• Computer literacy

• 6 – 12 month’s experience Port Control / Marine Services
