Requirements:
An appropriate 3 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Natural
Sciences, Engineering or related field with experience in local, provincial or national
government and waste management.
Knowledge on local government operations especially waste management.
Technical, policy and legislative knowledge on waste management.
Research, communication and project management skills.
A Master’ Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering or related field would be an
added advantage.
Must have extensive experience in waste management, and knowledge of SA and
government’s priorities and challenges on chemicals and waste management.
Extensive experience in management and a working knowledge of environmental
matters relating to local government and waste management.
Must have an ability to manage components and plan for activities, including
projects and policy matters.
Experience in project management.
The incumbent will be required to travel extensively and must be able to work
independently, in a team, efficiently under pressure, and to work beyond the
normal working hours.
A valid driver’s license.
Duties:
Provide technical support to municipalities on all waste related issues, including
planning and policy development and operational matters.
Provide financial support in relation to budgeting, costing and sourcing of funds for
waste services.
Provide support to municipalities relating to infrastructural requirements and their
maintenance.
Provide support to municipalities in relation to accelerating waste collection
services.
Develop and maintain a database for all stakeholders.
Facilitate engagement with other relevant stakeholders to facilitate the provision of
waste collection services.
Manage the maintenance of local government database.
