Senior Doctor Clinical Advisor – Parktown – The Aurum Institute

Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Clinical Advisor – HSD is responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the development and implementation of health systems strengthening processes, standards and activities in support of the South African National Departments of Health (NDOH), Correctional Services (DCS) as well as other government departments (as may be necessary); in the districts supported by Aurum. The role also serves to translate national and international policies into best practice for implementation by Aurum and the departments. In collaboration with the Aurum Training Department, the HSD Senior Clinical Advisor (SCA-HSD) will by necessity be involved in training, mentorship and quality improvement across the various programmes offered by Aurum. Additionally, the SCA-HSD will play a managerial and stakeholder relation role.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  • Lead the Health System Strengthening and Technical Support Strategy
  • Lead the provision of guidance and expertise on clinical best practice
  • Planning and execution of HIV and TB prevention care and treatment technical support in the Aurum-supported districts
  • Update clinical working practice documents in line with guideline revisions
  • Facilitate Internal and/or External Training relevant to the various Aurum and DOH
  • programmes
  • Mentor District Clinical Advisors and middle levels clinical staff in the districts
  • Liaise with External and Internal Customers
  • Be involved in writing proposals, strategies
  • Write and submit timeous, good quality reports
  • Human Capital Management – self and Aurum staff
  • General Administration – as may be assigned for efficient and effective implementation of the HSS strategy
  • Resource Management – Human, Finance, Assets
  • Apply a systematic Quality Improvement approach throughout all activities

YOU SHOULD HAVE:
Qualification/Professional Membership:

  • Medical Degree (MBChB or equivalent)
  • Post graduate qualification in public health is highly advantageous
  • Postgraduate degree or diploma in HIV Management is an advantage
  • Valid registration with the HPCSA

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in clinical management of HIV/AIDS, TB.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the field of HIV/TB project management
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the department of Health / public health sector
  • Substantial progressive, professional-level experience at management level in health systems-strengthening

  • Demonstrable, thorough understanding of the SA Department of Health system, policies and guidelines
  • Demonstrable knowledge of advanced HIV/AIDS and TB
  • Other:
  • Valid driver’s licence and own car
  • Be prepared to undertake significant travel ( 30% of their time)

NB: Foreign citizens must have a valid work permit for South Africa
