Purpose of Job /Role Intent (Know How):

Utilising authoritative level of experience in Control Engineering Quality Assurance and Quality Control to:

• Manage and / or execute the Commissioning and QA/QC of complex and / or specialised systems in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements.

• Commissioning support role on single and multi-discipline projects

• Conduct Factory Site acceptance testing

• Co-ordinate witness type tests / special tests conducted by Engineering Houses

• Ensure compliance with requirements of the Quality control plans (QCP’s)

• Responsible to identify proactive quality assurance measures.

• Identify pro-actively non compliances on a project to ensure schedule is met

• Functional safety and system software programming and testing on various systems

• Ensure adherence to Regulations, Standards and Sasol specifications

• Ensure compliance to Hazardous area regulations and requirements with certifications

• Manage construction contractors to ensure compliance to Sasol requirements

• Resolve on site construction issues (Ad- Hoc problem solver)

• Keep abreast with Regulations, SABS standards and Sasol specifications develop new standards / specifications when required

• Work in close relationship with the Lead Engineer and give advice / Inputs into Engineering packages (Concept/ Basic Detail stages)

• Lead Potential deviation analyses (PDA’s)

• Interact with other members of project team (Project Managers/ Engineering Managers/ Engineering Contractors/ Construction Contractors/ Suppliers etc.)

Experience in discipline specific engineering:

• Broad base engineering, commissioning and QA/QC knowledge and competence

• Detailed knowledge in defined fields of discipline specific engineering (e.g. selection of equipment for use in hazardous areas and required installation methods, Measurement devices, Field equipment installation, Software programming and testing)

• Ability to formulate and execute (manage and do) the commissioning and QA/QC scope for large multidisciplinary projects (from tier 5 up to T1 projects)

Aware of best practices and able to ensure/maintain compliance in own area:

• Utilise Engineering systems, tools and standards (own, local and international) in own work and projects.

• Contribute to Create, develop and update of Discipline specific Engineering commissioning and QA/QC systems, tools and standards.

Human relations:

• Active practicing of interpersonal skills required for productive working relationships and to work with, or through, others inside and/or outside (including suppliers) the organisation to get work accomplished. Critical to this role are influencing, negotiating, maturity and emotional intelligence.

• Operate successfully in a diverse (culture, roles, positions and levels, etc.) work environment

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

• Qualifications:

National Diploma (T3/T4) and 12+ years of experience

Provide input concerning best practices, lessons learnt and training

– Define discipline specific standards and develop and update specifications and procedures related to commissioning, construction management and QA/QC.

– Input to project execution strategies including contracting and selection of suppliers

– Development of commissioning and quality assurance/control strategy for capital projects that will be applied on all Sasol projects ensuring successful commissioning of all projects

  • Lessons learnt captured, shared and implemented on projects. Value add from implementation of lessons learnt

  • Successful implementation of execution, commissioning and quality assurance strategies
