AMSHeR (African Men for Sexual Health and Rights) is a coalition of 18 Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) -led organisations in 15 African countries. The mission of the organization is, through advocacy and capacity strengthening, to promote non-discrimination, particularly discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), and to advance access to quality health services for MSM and LGBT individuals across the African continent.
AMSHeR will start implementing a three year GFATM (Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) programme for Key Populations – Representation, Evidence and Advocacy for Change in Health, referred to as KP REACH. KP REACH was developed and will be implemented by KP networks and NGOs in Southern Africa to address the high levels of HIV infection among Sex workers, Men who have Sex with Men, Transgender and Women who have sex with women.
AMSHeR is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Communications and Media Advocacy Manager to support the effective implementation of KP REACH. This Manager is responsible for developing and delivering a communications/advocacy strategy, putting mechanisms in place to disseminate and promote AMSHeR’s strategy and regional priorities, supporting member organisations, enhancing AMSHeR’s impact and influence through creative and innovative communications, and ensuring the effective use of a range of social and other media forms to provide a base for AMSHeR advocacy.
Suitably qualified candidates should have 5-8 years’ experience, at least 1 of which at a coordinator/middle manager level in communications /advocacy development work, preferably in the HIV AIDS or development sector. Specific experience in advocacy campaigns, media events, project management and stakeholder management is required. Should also have some experience managing stakeholders across a variety of contexts, and the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget. Experience of the MSM and LBGTI sectors and the GFTAM would be an advantage. The post is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. AMSHeR welcomes International and Regional applicants but can only offer a position to those with a valid work permit for South Africa.
